Starting from May 15, 2023, Russia cancels visa regime for the citizens of Georgia, with the exception of those entering Russia for the purpose of employment. The relevant decree of the Russian President was published on the portal of legal information.

Also, Vladimir Putin has canceled the ban on air travel from Russia to the territory of Georgia since May 10. The new decree cancels Decree No. 287 of 21 June 2019 “On Certain Measures to Ensure National Security of the Russian Federation and Protect Russian Citizens from Criminal and Other Illegal Activities”.

Decree No. 287 imposed a temporary ban on Russian airlines to carry out air transportation, including commercial, of citizens from the territory of the Russian Federation to Georgia. It also recommended tour operators and travel agents to refrain, for the duration of the ban, from selling tourist products to citizens, providing relevant transportation.

In addition, Smolenskaya Square reported, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s recommendation of 21 June 2019 for Russian citizens to refrain from travelling to Georgia is also cancelled. “At the same time, security aspects should be taken into account when visiting this country, exercising prudence,” said a comment by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, published on the ministry’s website.

Russian airlines will fly from Moscow to Tbilisi and back seven times a week after restrictions on flights between Russia and Georgia are lifted, Interfax reported, quoting a Russian Transport Ministry official.

“Carriers are currently making preparations for the resumption of flights. Russian airlines will operate seven direct flights weekly from Moscow to Tbilisi and back. The flights will be operated by domestic aircraft,” the ministry said.
