Russian Helicopters Holding has handed over two Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters built at Ulan-Ude Helicopter Plant to the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The machines are equipped with heated transmission units, which allows the engine to start at temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees, according to the holding’s press service.

The helicopters will operate in the Subarctic and Polar regions, and in July they will be put on combat duty in the Murmansk region. The helicopters are equipped with additional fuel tanks, which allow the helicopter to stay in the air for more than 5 hours and to cover up to 1100 kilometers. Also for the crew comfort the fuselage is equipped with improved heat and sound insulation with air heating system.

Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov inspected two incoming helicopters during his working trip to St. Petersburg, TASS reports.

He noted that this year the Ministry of Emergency Situations expects two more helicopters in the Arctic version. “One of the perspective tasks is to equip the Arctic units of EMERCOM of Russia with aviation equipment in all northern regions, which will ensure prompt assistance even in the most remote corners of the country”, – stressed the head of the Ministry.
