In his annual report to the deputies of the regional Duma, Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev said that the region will organise the production of nacelles for MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft. Investments in the project will amount to 10.5 billion roubles.

“Together with the United Aircraft Corporation it was decided to implement a project for the production of nacelles for Russian passenger aircraft with a total investment of 10.5 billion roubles,” the governor said.

Earlier Gusev also informed that a nacelle production centre will be built in the Maslovsky Industrial Park in the Levoberezhny District of Voronezh by 2026. More than 500 jobs are expected to be created, and both state and off-budget investments will be attracted to finance the project.

In early 2022, on the instructions of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rostec studied the issue of import substitution of components for domestic aircraft. In May 2023, at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Governor Alexander Gusev held via video conference, it was said that Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO) would start producing nacelles for engines for MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft.
