The Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) has started construction of a plant for the production of the Baikal LMS-901 multi-purpose airplane. Erection of production facilities is going on the territory of advanced development (ADT) Khabarovsk in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This was reported in the press-service of FEDC.

Upon completion of construction, the finished infrastructure will be transferred to a preferential lease to a resident of the Khabarovsk FEDC, the company “Spetsaviatekhnika” for the organization of aircraft production. The investor under the agreement with FEDC will invest 500 million rubles in the launch of the new enterprise and create 80 jobs.

“The contracting organization is completing the clearing of the construction site, works on the organization of the turning area and access road, permanent fencing and temporary power supply are underway. 25 units of special equipment are employed at the site,” said Dmitry Belousov, Director of the FEDC Construction Department.

According to him, in full construction and installation work on the construction of the production building for the assembly of LMS-901 Baikal aircraft is scheduled to be completed in June 2025. At the same time, FEDC is taking measures to reduce the established construction time, for example, since the beginning of 2024, construction work is being carried out in a round-the-clock mode.

Earlier it was reported that one of the key features of the plant project is the use of fast-erecting structures. This allows the contractor to complete the construction by December 2024. However, the head of the region Mikhail Degtyaryov during the direct line on December 6, 2023 noted that the plant is planned to be launched in June-July 2025, which can be realized if the contractor copes with the work in one construction season.

The new plant will be located near the airfield infrastructure and existing facilities of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Gagarin Aviation Plant and the Production Center of the Yakovlev branch of PJSC Yakovlev. This will ensure convenient interaction and cooperation between the enterprises, as well as optimal utilization of available resources. The federal budget investment in the creation of the relevant infrastructure will amount to about 2.5 billion rubles.

It is expected that the new enterprise will produce up to 20 Baikal airplanes per year, which will make it possible to meet the demand for light airplanes, primarily in the domestic market.
