Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Kanat Bozumbayev, stated at a briefing in Astana that the investigation into the aviation incident involving an Embraer E190 aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines in Aktau is being conducted by a commission involving experts from various countries, including Russia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, and representatives from ICAO. He also commented on the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) transcript of the E190 which had appeared online, as reported by the Tengrinews.kz agency.

“The flight recorders have been deciphered, returned to Kazakhstan, and are now with the investigative team under the aegis of the Prosecutor General’s Office. All experts are currently working on them. Copies of these materials are available to both the Azerbaijani and Russian sides. We have nothing to hide. I am referring to the audio communications and other things,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

He reported that the commission’s primary focus is on the analysis of data obtained from the flight recorders’ transcriptions. A full analysis has been carried out, including flight parameters and audio recordings of the crew’s communications with each other and with air traffic control, which is a critical stage in establishing the causes of the aircraft accident.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the publication of cockpit communications in social media predominantly contains communications with ground services, rather than internal communications between the crew members. A comparison with the actual contents of the flight recorders revealed significant discrepancies, which casts doubt on the reliability of the materials released online. Based on this, the investigation’s priority is the analysis of official data, and any insinuations from unofficial sources will be disregarded.

“The ‘black box’ contains all the communications conducted by the captain, the pilot, and the crew members. There’s a bit more there. Based on this, I understand that this is not a leak from our investigative group. The recording that appeared online differs considerably from the content of the flight recorders. […] why look for the source of a ‘leak’ if we don’t consider it a ‘leak’ of the flight recorders’ transcriptions? Just because someone published something on the internet, does not mean that it is the truth. What has been published is very different [from the real data]. Therefore, await official sources,” he stated.

Kazakhstan is committed to transparency in the investigation and is demonstrating its commitment to openness and readiness to cooperate with all parties involved to establish the truth, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan noted. He added that the commission investigating the crash will release preliminary findings shortly.
