Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshchenko, commander of the mixed aviation corps of the Northern Fleet, has highly praised the training of pilots of naval aviation and congratulated them on new records, which have been entered into the book of records of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.

In August 2023, the crews of the ship-based combat aviation on Su-33 aircraft flew to the airfields located on the islands of the Arctic Ocean. They confirmed the possibility of using combat aviation in the Arctic latitudes to protect the Russian Armed Forces’ facilities in the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route.

At the same time, Su-33 crews took off from Rogachevo (Novaya Zemlya archipelago) and Nagurskaya (Franz-Josef-Land archipelago) airfields on combat duty for the first time, confirming the aircraft’s reliability and ability to perform tasks on the islands of the Arctic Ocean.

During the meeting of the Military Council, which was chaired by Alexander Atroshchenko, the issues of ensuring the combat readiness of aviation units were also discussed. The commander of the Northern Fleet’s Ship-Based Fighter Aviation Regiment was presented with a certificate on the inclusion of his unit’s achievements in the Book of Records of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
