The construction of a new air terminal at Baikal Airport in the capital of Buryatia was announced in the social network “VKontakte” by the general director of the air harbor Dmitry Garmaev.

“Started excavation work for the new Terminal. And the construction and maintenance of aircraft are going in parallel, “- he wrote and posted a photo from the construction site.

When building the new terminal, some of the trees will have to be dug out and replanted. Engineering group of companies “Spectrum” will do the construction. The corresponding contract was signed by the General Director of Spectrum Holding LLC Vladimir Ivanov and the head of the airport in December 2022.

It is expected that with the launch of the new airport terminal, passenger traffic of Baikal airport will triple. The planned capacity will be up to 700 thousand people a year and 600 people an hour. The existing building will remain and will accept only international flights. The construction itself will cost 3 billion 118 million rubles. The investor is the owner of the airport – the company “Novaport Holding”.

The two-storey airport terminal complex with 17 meters height and area of 6 629 square meters will be built on the west side of the current building. From the north side on the second floor it will have boarding galleries leading to two boarding ramps. This will allow passengers to get from the terminal directly on board the plane.
