The Russian Ministry of Construction reported that an updated set of rules on the design of air terminal buildings and complexes in Russia has entered into force. The changes are aimed at solving the problems of the development, reconstruction and construction of airports within the framework of a comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of mainline infrastructure until 2024.

According to the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya), the requirements for volumetric planning solutions and functional zoning of small airport terminals are simplified and optimized, the requirements for the premises of the basic technological purpose are minimized, as well as compulsory additional passenger services. Also the Ministry of Construction clarified the possibilities of combining the terminal building with the objects of other purposes, and specified the requirements for engineering systems, architectural, planning and design solutions taking into account the objectives of energy efficiency, mechanical and fire safety.

“In addition, clarified the provisions for the design of air terminals of the northern construction and climatic zone, facilities located in remote and hard-to-reach areas,” added in Rosaviatsiya.

Among the most important updates are the introduction of additional requirements for the area needed to disperse people during evacuation, taking into account the characteristics of people with low mobility, as well as the presence of rooms to assist them.
