At a meeting of the BRICS Partnership Advisory Group held on 15 August in Nizhny Novgorod, Alexander Skirdov, Head of the Marketing Department of United Engine Corporation (UEC), spoke about UEC’s readiness to share its technologies and experience for joint development, production and after-sales service of modern aircraft engines. As a basis for new products it is proposed to use both existing and prospective power plants developed by UEC, the corporation’s press service reported.
Thus, in particular, it is proposed to create a working group to expand technological cooperation in the field of engine building. Within the framework of this co-operation it is planned to develop not only aircraft engines for civil aviation, but also industrial and marine gas turbine propulsion systems.
At the exhibition of Russian high-tech industrial products, which was held as part of the group meeting, as an example of a promising project, UEC presented a demonstrator of a 500 kW hybrid propulsion system. The unit combines electric and gas turbine engines (VK-650V), which makes it possible to achieve higher fuel efficiency compared to classic propulsion systems.
In addition to joint projects in the field of engine building, UEC proposes to create a unified database for the BRICS countries, which will contain information on aircraft components and parts, as well as their national manufacturers. It is also proposed to develop unified internal industry standards and regulatory requirements for the BRICS aviation industry. At the same meeting, Skirdov presented a wide range of domestic civil engines produced by the corporation’s enterprises.
