The Russian Ministry of Transport and Yakutia Airlines agreed to allocate 121.6 million rubles by the end of this year to subsidize flights from Yakutsk to Moscow in connection with the suspension of flights on this route by Aeroflot. This was announced by Head of the region Aysen Nikolayev at a press conference in Yakutsk.

According to him, in 2023, Yakutia has not received any subsidies, only Aeroflot, but the carrier has suspended flights due to the runway reconstruction, and there are no subsidized tickets.

“We have been working on this issue with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, there were several appeals from my side, our deputies got involved. Today, I want to tell the good news for all Yakutians – the Ministry has already signed a protocol under which Yakutia Airlines will receive 121.6 million rubles to subsidize flights between Yakutsk and Moscow by the end of the year,” said the head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Nikolaev stressed that we are talking about privileged passengers, which include young people under 22 years old, women over 55 years, men over 60 years, disabled people of group 1 of any age and persons accompanying them, disabled children of group 2 and 3, accompanying children with disabilities and members of large families.

Following Aeroflot’s announcement to suspend flights during the runway repairs, all the tickets for Yakutia’s direct flights to Moscow in June were sold out, with only a few tickets remaining on sale, at maximum fares. Aysen Nikolayev stressed that from July 1, it will be possible to purchase tickets at subsidized rates.

Earlier it was reported that the final phase of the runway reconstruction began on May 15. In connection with this, the 3,250-meter runway will be operated in a limited mode for the next few months. From 15 May to 15 June the runway will be 1,650 metres and from 15 June to 1 October it will be 1,800 metres.

Until June 15, Yakutia Airlines will fly from Yakutsk to Moscow twice a day on Boeing 737-700, with a technical landing for refueling in Nizhnevartovsk. From 16 June, a 1,800-metre-long runway section at Yakutsk Airport will become operational, allowing SSJ100 and mid-range aircraft such as the Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 320neo to operate.
