Moscow Aviation Institute will take part in the International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2023” from August 14 to 20, which will be held in the Congress and Exhibition Center “Patriot” in Kubinka near Moscow. Among the exhibits that the university will present at the venue is a VR simulator created by the MAI’s Energy Systems Competence Center. The development is designed to train maintenance of aviation equipment, the MAI press service reported.

“The simulator is a VR-helmet and a multimedia application. A person puts on the helmet and is immersed in a virtual environment that fully recreates a real hangar, airplane and all the necessary equipment. Then, with the help of interactive prompts, he learns to maintain the aircraft – interacts with virtual levers, buttons and hatches,” said Valentina Chesnokova, Project Manager of the Competences Center.

VR-trainer may be of interest not only to manufacturers and operators of aerospace equipment, but also to aviation training centers, universities, colleges and military schools, as well as organizations engaged in maintenance and repair. One of the key advantages of the development is the ability to practice practical skills without involving aircraft.

“For every aircraft there are several volumes of technical operation manuals. A technician is not able to know it by heart, so he constantly has to refer to the documents. Thanks to the prompts of the VR simulator, the training material will be learned more effectively, and the number of errors in performing operations will be reduced,” said Valentina Chesnokova.

The creators of the simulator have prepared two training scenarios on aircraft maintenance on the example of SSJ100. The development will be used at the Aviation Training Center of MAI in the process of aircraft technician training.

Highly qualified specialists with practical experience in aircraft maintenance were involved in the development of the training material. In the future, MAI plans to conclude contracts with industry representatives for the delivery of the simulator.
