Russia’s Kalashnikov Concern has signed an agreement to supply an Indian customer with a batch of Karakurt unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), with deliveries scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The contract was announced during the India Homeland Security Expo in New Delhi on 24–25 June. Kalashnikov said discussions are under way on establishing licensed production in India to support future sales to local end users.

The Karakurt is a compact rotary-wing platform intended for short-range reconnaissance and public-security missions. According to the manufacturer, the system can be launched from the ground, by hand, or from a dedicated transport-launch container intended to reduce deployment time.

Published specifications indicate a launch mass of approximately 500 g, maximum speed of 20–25 km/h, endurance of up to 20 minutes, operating altitude of around 250 m, and control range of approximately 2.5 km. Propulsion is provided by a battery-powered four-rotor electric configuration.

The aircraft carries an integrated stabilised sensor package combining electro-optical and thermal imaging functions rather than modular payload options. Control is performed through a compact remote terminal using protected radio links.

Kalashnikov markets the system for rapid close-range ISR tasks including terrain assessment, indoor reconnaissance, and support of intervention and assault units. The company said the platform has undergone operational evaluation and is included in the Legionnaire soldier equipment programme.

For Kalashnikov, licensed production in India would extend access to a market where demand for domestically manufactured unmanned systems continues to expand across security and government users.
