Rosaviatsia told about rescue operation after Mi-2 helicopter crash

Hard landing of Mi-2 helicopter (registration number RA-14266) occurred on 30 October at 07:18 Moscow time in the area of Verkhoyanskiy ridge, 318 km from Tiksi airport. Meteorological conditions: low cloudiness, wind near the ground 5 m/s, air temperature minus 15 degrees Celsius.

“The professionalism of the crew of the Mi-8 search and rescue helicopter of Polar Airlines, competent and decisive actions of the members of the rescue parachute and paratrooper group of the Tiksi Regional Search and Rescue Base allowed timely evacuation of two crew members and three passengers of the helicopter to the settlement of Tiksi (Yakutia),” Rosaviatsia said.

According to preliminary information from the owner of this machine – aviation-technical sports club “OSA”, the helicopter in the process of take-off collided with the ground because of what the aircraft tipped over on the right side. As a result, the helicopter’s main rotor collapsed and the tail beam broke off. There were five people on board.

The flight manager of the Tiksin airport announced an “Alert” signal to the crew of the Mi-8 search and rescue and parachute rescue team. In turn, the head of the search and rescue operation in the Yakutsk aerospace search and rescue zone decided to carry out measures to rescue the passengers and crew of the Mi-2. The Mi-8 helicopter with rescuers on board left Tiksi and headed for the disaster area. After finding the Mi-2, the crew of the search and rescue helicopter made a landing and the rescuers evacuated the victims aboard the Mi-8.

“The evacuation involved the Mi-8 crew headed by commander A. Chernyaev. The rescue parachute and airborne group included senior G. Kuzmenko, rescuers R. Klishin and I. Khristenko. In addition, five doctors of the central district hospital of Tiksi flew on board the “eight”,” the department added.
