Nine Russian airlines, including Aeroflot, Ural Airlines, Utair, Smartavia, Azur Air, Yakutia, IrAero, Nordwind and Nord Star, have submitted requests for clearance for new flights to the Uzbek capital, Tashkent. This follows from the materials of Rosaviatsia, reports “Prime”.

Earlier, Aeroflot has already received permits allowing it to operate up to 18 flights a week to Tashkent, and Utair – seven flights. Now the maximum number of direct flights between Moscow and Tashkent will increase from 39 to 50 per week.

“Aeroflot has applied for 11 new flights, Ural Airlines, Utair, Smartavia and IrAero have applied for seven flights each. Nord Star is ready to operate four flights a week, Nordwind – three. Azur Air and Yakutia – two flights per week each.

The significant increase in the number of flights between Russia and Uzbekistan testifies to the growing interest in tourist and business trips between the two countries. Uzbekistan, rich in historical and cultural sights such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, as well as warm climate, moderate cost of stay for Russians in the republic and absence of language barrier, hospitality and colourful national cuisine attracts more and more tourists from Russia.

Tashkent believes that applications from Russian airlines for new flights to Uzbekistan are evidence of the growing interaction and co-operation between the two countries in the field of air transport. This will lead to an increase in passenger numbers, tourism development and contribute to economic growth in both countries.
