The ODK-Star company in Perm, which develops and manufactures automatic control systems for the PD-8 engine, has commissioned seven test benches, and five more will start operating in the near future. Thus, their number will be almost doubled in the near future, according to the press service of the United Engine Corporation (UEC).

New test benches for the automatic control system SAU-8 for PD-8 allow to test hydro-mechanical and electronic units both individually and as a whole, simulating their work as part of the engine. If in 2022 the enterprise produced five sets of SCAU assemblies for PD-8, this year it is planned to produce about 35 sets.

United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has the task to supply more than 500 aircraft of various types for domestic airlines by 2030. In order to accomplish this task the UAC enterprises increase their production capacities, for example the number of test benches for work on the PD-8 engine control systems will practically double in Perm – in the near future their number will reach 12.

“Development work on the SAU-8 for the PD-8 engine will be completed in June of this year. Now there are preliminary and qualification tests of the units, including climatic, mechanical and other external influences. After that, the aircraft with PD-8 engines will complete the flight qualification testing program, and the Perm units will be assigned the O1 letter – they will be promoted from prototype to serial status,” said ODK-STAR Managing Director Sergey Popov.

In December 2022, flight tests of the PD-8 engine began in Zhukovsky as part of the IL-76 flying laboratory.
