The Voronezh Aircraft Plant (branch of PJSC IL – VASO) has completed the main assembly of the fuselage of the next IL-96-300 passenger aircraft. The 18-tonne unit was rolled out of the general assembly slipway, the press service of the United Aircraft Corporation said.

“All major volumes of slipway assembly of the 18-tonne unit were completed in three months – this is the shortest assembly cycle in recent years,” UAC commented

According to Yuriy Shestakov, head of the aircraft plant’s aggregate assembly production, the team of the fuselage assembly shop, VASO’s blanking and stamping and mechanical assembly production worked well. By the end of March, the fuselage will undergo off-stage work and will be transferred to the final assembly shop.

According to the plan, this year the units of another IL-96-300 are to be delivered for final assembly. Thus, Voronezh aircraft builders have reached the planned production rate of two aircraft of this type annually.

In accordance with the comprehensive programme for the development of the aviation industry, VASO is to produce 12 IL-96-300 airliners by 2030. Moreover, the roll-out of new aircraft is not envisaged for 2024. In 2025 the team should build two liners, in 2026 – one, and further: 2027 – 2, 2028 – 2, 2029 – 3, 2030 – 2. All 12 aircraft are to be leased to Russian airlines for commercial passenger transport.
