On 17 August, the first batch of four Mi-35M helicopters arrived in Belarus from Russia. The range of the flight was more than 2 thousand kilometres. The helicopters were piloted by Belarusian pilots, reported the press service of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic.
The received attack helicopters will become operational in a few weeks, said Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Forces – Chief of Aviation Colonel Leonid Davidovich, writes TASS.
According to him, Belarusian pilots and engineering staff have already retrained at a specialised centre in the Russian Federation. In a few weeks, the helicopters will go into service after a thorough study of technical characteristics and preparation of the necessary documents. “The personnel will perform on the new helicopters the tasks of flight training, combat duty, as well as those tasks for which they are designed,” the press service of the Belarusian Defence Ministry quoted Davidovich as saying.
The Mi-35M multi-purpose attack helicopter is an upgraded version of the Mi-24 and is designed to destroy armoured vehicles, enemy manpower, fire support of motorized rifle and tank units, landing of paratroopers, evacuation of wounded. The helicopter is also capable of transporting cargo in the cockpit and on external suspension. The machine’s crew consists of two people.
