The Russian air transport has no tendency to increase the number of aviation incidents, reported in Rosaviatsiya.

The department’s spokesman Artyom Korenyako noted on 12 December that Russian civil aviation has come under a barrage of unsupported assessments about the allegedly deplorable situation with flight safety.

“None of the media, which decided to broadcast this, to put it mildly, contradictory information, did not find it possible to contact the press service of Rosaviatsia for comments. Against this background, today on the air of RBC-TV we talked about the current situation in the industry, including with flight safety,” he commented in the telegram channel Representative of Rosaviatsiya.

In the first 11 months of 2023, the number of aviation incidents involving aircraft carrying passengers and cargo decreased by 1.3% compared to the same period last year, to 670 cases. Of these, the number of incidents involving aircraft and engine failures totalled 400 cases, a 2% decrease compared to January-November 2022. Taking November 2023 data separately, the number of incidents involving aircraft and engine failures decreased by 18 per cent to 40 incidents by November 2022.

The decrease in the number of incidents is taking place against the backdrop of an increase in aircraft overflights by domestic users of Russian airspace. According to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “State Corporation for Air Traffic Control”, in the first 11 months of 2023, this indicator increased by 6.5 per cent to 1.85 million hours compared to the same period last year.

“Timely actions of the government and Russian airlines, including the development of adjusted approaches and technological solutions for aircraft maintenance that do not contradict manufacturers’ documentation, allow to ensure the growth of aircraft flight hours with simultaneous maintenance of a high level of flight safety of Russian airlines,” said Mikhail Vasilenkov, Head of Airworthiness Maintenance Department of Rosaviatsiya.

To ensure the serviceability of aircraft fleet, including imported aircraft, Rosaviatsia has certified 445 maintenance and repair organisations. Of these, the six largest have 23 fully functional hangar complexes to handle all types of aircraft for Russian airlines.

“Logistic chains are available for domestic airlines, thanks to which they receive the required spare parts and components for the normal operation of aircraft,” Mikhail Vasilenkov finalised.
