The S.A. Chaplygin Siberian Aviation Research Institute (SibNIA) and TsAGI have completed certification life and static tests of the modified airframe of the RRJ-95NEW-100 (SJ-100) aircraft. On 26 December, Rosaviatsiya issued approval of the main change to the type certificate, which allows the transition to production of the SJ-100 based on serial design documentation, and in accordance with the government’s instruction to hand over the first import-substituted aircraft into service in 2024, the United Aircraft Corporation’s press service said.

“The airframe of the SJ-100 aircraft was delivered to Novosibirsk in January 2023 specifically to undergo static tests, which took place in the fatigue and static strength department of SibNIA. The new airframe design allows for the installation and introduction of Russian-made systems and units into the SJ-100 design,” UAC said. Before the approval, calculation and experimental work was carried out. They were carried out, among other things, on a resource aircraft in TsAGI and on a static airframe in SibNIA.

According to the UAC representative, the tests were due to structural changes in the wing and fuselage of the aircraft, as well as the installation of the PD-8 engine and new design landing gear. “The tests affected, in particular, the fuselage, wing, horizontal plumage, pylons and PD-8 engine linkage assemblies,” he explained.

“For the import substitution programme of the SJ-100 aircraft systems and components, this event is extremely important. The approval confirms that the designed airframe design is safe and meets all the requirements of airworthiness standards. All certification processes of modern domestic aircraft are under constant control at Rosaviatsiya,” emphasised Andrey Dobryakov, Deputy Head of the Agency.
