Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has revised the expected timeline for type certification of the SJ-100 regional jet, now targeting completion between late 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.

Industry minister Anton Alikhanov said the aircraft has completed more than 80 per cent of its flight-test programme, with the remaining campaign work expected to conclude during 2026. Once flight testing is finalised, the manufacturer will compile and submit the full certification evidence package to the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia), supporting approval of major changes to the type design and the re-issuance of the type certificate.

The certification process is being driven by the scope of documentation required for regulatory approval following the SJ-100’s extensive redesign under Russia’s import-substitution programme. Officials noted that the transition from flight testing to certification review is expected to be document-heavy, with Rosaviatsia required to incorporate approved design changes into the type certificate data sheet.

According to the ministry, serial production of the SJ-100 continues in parallel at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur production site, with 26 aircraft in various stages of completion out of a total of 42 contracted airframes. Deliveries to airlines are expected to begin once type certification is granted.

The revised timeline represents a delay of approximately five to six months compared with earlier expectations, which had placed completion of certification testing for the SJ-100 equipped with the PD-8 engine in August 2026. Authorities previously stressed that the schedule remained dependent on test outcomes and resolution of regulator findings.
