Russian Helicopters is demonstrating the Ka-226T light multipurpose helicopter as part of a static exposition at the Army-2023 International Military-Technical Forum. In 30 minutes right on the aerodrome it is possible to completely change the configuration of the machine, the holding’s press service said.

“One of the main advantages of the helicopter is its modular design scheme. Under aerodrome conditions it can be quickly converted into a passenger, cargo, ambulance or search and rescue version by replacing one module with another. Moreover, the transformation can take only half an hour,” explained the representative of the holding.

The modernised vehicle is adapted for flights in mountains and over water. The application altitude has increased by almost a kilometre – up to 6,500 m above sea level. Lightweight materials are used in the helicopter fuselage design, an accident-resistant fuel system is installed, which increases the safety level for pilots and passengers. Ka-226T is equipped with a new complex of pilot navigation and radio communication equipment, which reduces the load on pilots and increases the controllability of the aircraft. In addition, thanks to the increased volume of fuel tanks, the machine’s range has increased.

“This beautiful machine continues to be improved. Design documentation for a new import-substituted Ka-226T modification is being produced. At the same time, the design is carried out exclusively in digital format. This allows to achieve increased accuracy in calculations and launch the aircraft into production faster. Externally, the helicopter will remain the same, but it is its technical appearance – the composition of systems – that will change,” said Anton Korolev, Deputy Director General of Russian Helicopters for helicopter sales.

Currently, the Mil National Helicopter Building Centre and the N.L. Mil National Helicopter Building Centre are working on the design of the helicopter. M.L. Mil and N.I. Kamov National Helicopter Building Centre is conducting static tests of the machine’s units and assemblies. It is planned that the new VK-650V engines of domestic design and production will arrive in the third quarter of 2023 for adaptation and testing on the helicopter.

The coaxial design ensures compactness and high manoeuvrability. The helicopter is resistant to side winds and has a high rate of climb. Ka-226T can land on extremely limited sites, including on sea vessels. If necessary, the vehicle can be equipped with oxygen equipment, emergency landing system and other equipment.
