Rosaviatsiya (the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency) has voiced its satisfaction with the proficiency of Iranian companies in the realm of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO).
Three Iranian firms have now been authorised to conduct Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance Organisation (CAMO) work on Russian aircraft. This follows a successful period of co-operation during which the quality of work undertaken was judged by the Russian side to be of a high standard. In an interview with an IRNA correspondent in Moscow, Dmitry Yadrov, head of Rosaviatsiya, stated that the results of the collaboration with Iranian companies had exceeded expectations, opening up new avenues for further partnership.
“As part of our co-operation with the Civil Aviation Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Aeroflot recently dispatched one of its aircraft to Iran for maintenance, which was completed successfully,” said the Rosaviatsiya chief.
It was reported in April 2023 that Aeroflot had sent a wide-body Airbus A330-300 (RA-73700) from its fleet for maintenance in Iran, which was carried out in Tehran at the facilities of Mahan Air, Iran’s largest carrier. Dmitry Yadrov noted that, based on Aeroflot’s assessment, the quality of work performed by Iranian companies in ensuring the continuing airworthiness of aircraft was deemed excellent and fully met stringent flight safety requirements.
At the NAIS-2025 exhibition, held in Moscow in early February, Rosaviatsiya representatives emphasised that Iranian companies had demonstrated a high degree of professionalism. The approach to MRO and the quality of work carried out on Aeroflot aircraft confirmed that Iranian specialists are capable of providing high-quality maintenance, which is particularly crucial given the sanctions and restrictions faced by the Russian aviation sector.
In 2021, a mutual understanding was reached, enabling Iranian companies to obtain the necessary licences to work with Russian airlines. The Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between Iran and Russia, signed in January 2025, has streamlined the procedure for Iranian companies to obtain these licences. They can now work with Russian airlines through the Iranian Civil Aviation Organisation. This agreement encompasses not only maintenance but also design engineering work, aimed at expanding co-operation in the fields of aircraft construction and aircraft overhaul.
