During the First All-Russian Festival of Drone Racing, which took place in the capital of Chechnya on 13-14 April, the creation of the first Russian copter park in Ryazan was announced.

The ambitious project, which is due to be completed this year, will include a sports flying school, an education centre, a cyber sports hall, a laser tag and wrestling zone, as well as flat sports fields and a grandstand.

Alexander Kotov, vice-president of the Russian Drone Racing Federation, told a roundtable in Grozny that investment in the project will amount to some 300 million roubles. He emphasised that it will be a boost for the development of specialists in the field and will play an important role in popularising drone racing.

The Ryazan Copter Park will not be the only one in Russia, Alexander Kotov noted, adding that it is planned to open similar venues across the country in order to popularise and develop drone racing.

“To achieve these goals, it is important to pay special attention to increasing the accessibility of this new sport for young people, especially from the regions. This can be done by solving the existing problems in a comprehensive way: by creating the appropriate infrastructure for training and by training qualified coaching staff,” emphasised the vice-president of the Drone Racing Federation.
