Ust-Kamchatsk airport is a key element in the development of transport and tourist infrastructure of the Kamchatka region. Its reconstruction, carried out within the framework of the federal project “Development of Regional Airports”, has received a favourable conclusion from Glavgosexpertiza of Russia, the agency reported.
At the moment the airport of Ust-Kamchatsk belongs to the mountainous class “D” and has two runways – dirt and asphalt concrete. However, given that the airport infrastructure has been in operation for more than 50 years, it needs to be reconstructed. The proposed design solutions include reinforcement of the existing aerodrome pavement and construction of a new runway with an artificial surface with dimensions of 1495x35m. In addition, it is planned to build a taxiway and an apron for aircraft parking.
The reconstruction of the Ust-Kamchatsk airport also provides for the creation of additional infrastructure facilities. In particular, treatment facilities, a fuel and lubricants warehouse, a modular boiler house and a patrol road with a length of about 5 kilometres will be built. These facilities will contribute to a more efficient and safe operation of the airport.
One of the important tasks in designing the reconstruction of the Ust-Kamchatsk airport is to ensure seismic resistance of the structures. In this regard, specialists have developed special technical specifications that will allow to create reliable and stable structures that can withstand possible seismic impacts.
The new infrastructure of Ust-Kamchatsk airport will be able to serve An-24, An-26, Yak-40, L-410, DHC 8-200 aircrafts, as well as medium helicopters of Mi-8 type. This will increase the flow of passengers and freight traffic, and will contribute to the development of tourism and the region’s economy.
