The fully import-substituted SJ-100, serial number 97023, will perform approximately 130 certification flights, according to Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
“This aircraft is scheduled to undertake around 130 certification flights, encompassing specialised tests in extremely low and high temperatures,” TASS quoted him as saying.
On April 23rd, the completely import-substituted SJ-100 completed its maiden flight in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The aircraft is equipped with PD-8 engines, and features Russian-built aircraft systems and components. This is the second prototype aircraft fitted with PD-8 engines. The flight took place at altitudes up to 3,000 metres (approx. 9,800 feet) and speeds up to 500 km/h (approx. 310 mph), with a duration of approximately 40 minutes.
Manturov congratulated the aircraft manufacturers on this milestone, and noted that the successful start of flight trials for the fully import-substituted version of the aircraft “indicates a move towards the final stage of work” on it.
In the summer of 2024, Andrei Boginsky, then Deputy Director General of UAC for Civil Aviation, and General Director of PJSC Yakovlev, informed journalists that the SJ-100 prototype aircraft are expected to complete around 200 flights by the end of 2025.
“The intensity of flight tests will increase as two more prototypes, currently awaiting the installation of PD-8 engines in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, join the certification process,” he said.
