FPV drones Veter-8, Veter-10 and Veter-13 from a private company of the same name from the Transbaikal Territory have been delivered to units of various branches of the Russian Armed Forces in the special military operation zone. The kamikaze drones are already being actively used on the frontline, the Russian Arms TG-channel reported.
The company’s production capacity allows it to produce up to 3,000 drones per month, and more than 6,000 Veter (Wind) drones have already been used in combat operations.
The drones are equipped with command and telemetry control modules with ELRS (frequency range 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz) or Crossfire protocols (operates in the range of 868 MHz in the EU and Russia or 915 MHz in the USA, Asia and Australia). These protocols provide drones with an effective communication range of up to 40 kilometres.
Range is limited by battery capacity and payload weight. For the drone Veter-8 with payload mass up to 2.5 kg it is 10-15 km, Veter-10 with payload from two to 3.5 kg will be able to fly to a range of 15-20 km, for the most senior model of the family – Veter-13, which can take up to 8 kg of ammunition, the range will be up to 20 km. All models reach a speed of 150 km/h.
The key feature of the Veter kamikaze drone guidance system is the presence of an autonomous module with an onboard computer and software algorithms using artificial intelligence technologies. Target identification and capture is carried out in accordance with loaded templates of optical and infrared target signatures. The module is activated when the drone enters the range of the enemy’s electronic warfare equipment. Such hardware and software allows the operator to be at a considerable distance from the launch site.
Veter has two production facilities in the Transbaikal Territory and warehouses of finished products in Moscow and Rostov-on-Don. The drones are developed by a team of engineers, and the models themselves are created with the frontline military in mind. The company tests drones, including in conditions of electronic countermeasures.
