Aeroflot has finalised the process of settling relations with Irish lessor SMBC Aviation Capital on 16 aircraft and one more aircraft managed by SMBC Aviation Capital. Aeroflot’s press service said.

“In accordance with the agreements reached, the lessors have terminated their claims against the Russian parties both under insurance policies issued by Russian insurance companies and under leasing agreements with Aeroflot.” The ownership of the aircraft was transferred to the insurance company NSC Insurance Company LLC, which paid the settlement amount,” the statement said.

SMBC Aviation Capital confirmed receipt of the cash proceeds and announced that the total value of the transaction was approximately $710 million. In accordance with the agreements reached, the lessors have terminated their claims against the Russian parties under both insurance policies issued by Russian insurance companies and leasing agreements with Aeroflot, RIA Novosti reported.

“Aeroflot Group continues to negotiate the settlement of existing claims with other lessors of foreign-made aircraft,” the press service said.

In early September, the carrier said it had finalised the settlement of relations on 18 aircraft with another Irish lessor AerCap, which terminated its claims against Russian parties under both insurance policies issued by Russian insurance companies and leasing agreements, while ownership of the aircraft and engines passed to NSC Insurance Company LLC, which made payment of the settlement amount.

During 8th Eastern Economic Forum 2023 in Vladivostok, the carrier’s CEO Sergey Alexandrovsky reported that Aeroflot was negotiating with foreign lessors to settle insurance relations on the leasing of 17 aircraft, and plans to finalise the process for 61 aircraft by the end of the year.
